Our investigators experience and credentials include: Former Police Lieutenant from the Carlsbad Police Department, Jim Byler. During his career Jim served as the Traffic Sergeant, Detective Sergeant and Investigations Bureau Commander. Overseeing all investigative operations for the department, Jim gained extensive experience in all aspects of criminal, administrative, background and risk management investigations. He is a licensed Private Investigator and Qualified Manager, and is the co-founder and President of Skyhawk Patrol and Investigations. Jim has a B. S. Degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University. He is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy at Quantico, the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, and the Regional Management Academy for Public Safety Managers. He served as an adjunct faculty member at Palomar College for 12 years, and has both Community College and High School teaching certificates in Public Safety. Jim spent over twenty years as a Hostage Negotiator and Crisis Team leader. He has instructed in the F.B.I.’s Negotiations Course and serves as an instructor to law enforcement officers throughout the state in the field of hostage negotiations and crisis communications. Jim also served as the Public Information Officer for his police department, and has extensive training and experience working with the media. Jim is a certified instructor in the U.S. Navy’s Anti-Terrorism/ Force Protection program. He instructs military security personnel in a wide range of topics, including use of force, less lethal weapons, emergency driving, surveillance and terrorism prevention/detection. Jim is also a certified NRA instructor for pistol, shotgun and rifle. Dan Mulrenin, Director of Investigative Services, began a highly successful career with the Los Angeles Police Department after being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps. He gained extensive investigative experience while serving as an accident investigator, a narcotics investigator, and the Officer-in-Charge of a gang enforcement task force. He supervised the largest Bomb Detection Canine Unit in the country, and spent three years assigned to the Internal Affairs Group, directly responsible for conducting complex administrative investigations. Dan is a licensed Private Investigator, and co-founder of Skyhawk Patrol and Investigations. Dan’s reputation as an excellent investigator resulted in his selection as the Officer-in-Charge of LAPD’s Child Protection Section. Supervising over 50 investigators, he was responsible for the investigation and supervision of over 5000 cases of murder, physical and sexual abuse every year. Dan also served on a law enforcement committee organized to combat and investigate sexual predators on the Internet. Dan has a B.A. Degree in History from Cal Poly Pomona He is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, and LAPD’s Command Development School. In 2007 he was selected to travel to Israel to observe and work with the Israeli Defense Forces and the Israeli National Police. Dan recently retired from LAPD at the rank of Lieutenant. Dan is a certified instructor by the Department of Defense, United States Navy, in the field of Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection.
