Stem Cells - parting with the embryo

Researchers have succeeded in generating new lines of human embryonic stem cells without destroying the embryo - full story

So , if you can start a stem cell line, but not kill the embryo, that should solve the problem, right?

Probably not, after all, those "environmentalists" who wanted us to stop burning coal, reduce nuclear, etc., and who touted renewable energy for years, now they think wind mills are bad.. (see for example)

Maybe stem cells plucked harmlessly from embryos will lead to global cooling?

We warned you about Squirrels

Yes, despite our previous warnings, members of the public continue to frequent places where squirrels roam. (See "Even Squirrels go nuts". - Russian squirrel pack 'kills dog')

WINTER PARK, FL (AP) -- Some Winter Park residents say a squirrel that apparently attacked at least seven people should have been captured sooner. A three-year-old boy is said to have been bitten by the animal several times and has a two-inch wound on his leg. Another child was reportedly bitten on his calf and a man sitting on a park bench was attacked by the squirrel. He suffered a bite and scratches on his arm. - FULL STORY

So remember, you are what you eat...

BONUS - Squirrel behavior is not so nutty - so much for my thesis.

Why long term security requires a really big stick...

..but won't allow us to walk quietly.

Iraq, Iran (Hezbollah), and North Korea are security threats that won't soon go away. If they have their way they will go nuclear, and worse, develop long range delivery systems (missiles, most likely) to project said weapons of mass destruction. They may also be developing biological agents which present a similar peril to the civilized world.

We will need a missile defense, and we are rapidly developing the engineering proficiency to accomplish the same. We will also be able to reliably detect nuclear devices and biological and chemical agents before they arrive on our shores by subterfuge or the like. Unfortunately, accomplishing all of the above reliably will take another decade or more to perfect.

Thus the need to not walk so quietly. America must involve itself in the world, engage the enemy, and degrade the enemies arsenal and ability to build that arsenal. We must beat back those renegade nations, and nongovernmental organizations who would produce and use these WMD's.

Thus we must use force, project our power, and delay the threat, at least until we have an adequate shield, and until prosperity and democracy have eroded the ability of these rogues and dictators to utilize these weapons..

Who wants to be Michael Jordan? Not this guy.

Nike and Michael Jordan fend off an $832 million lawsuit from Oregon resident Allen Heckard....

......Heckard, as you may have heard, sued because he was "tired of being mistaken" for Jordan. He dropped his lawsuit this week after our unsympathetic society remorselessly mocked his pain and daily trauma.

..... "Even when I go to the gym I'm being accused of playing ball like him (Jordan)," Heckard told KGW-TV before dropping his lawsuit. - READ FULL STORY

Now this law suit idea has one of the sales people here at Rominger Legal thinking. Seems he wants to sue Tiger Woods, because their nine iron swings are so similar....
